In Queensland, how recently must a first-time applicant have completed an approved safety training course before applying for a weapons licence?
Section 10A requires the course to be completed within 1 year before the day the person applies, and the QPS fact sheet repeats this as 12 months. A longer or unlimited period is not allowed, so an old certificate cannot be used.
Which current accredited course is the approved firearms safety course for Queensland weapons licence applicants?
training.gov.au lists 11029NAT Course in Firearms and Weapons Safety (Approved for Firearms Licensing in Queensland) as the current course. 10618NAT is its previous version, and the Firearms Licence Qualification Course is the NSW course.
A person completed a weapons safety course in another State. When can that course meet Queensland's safety knowledge requirement?
Section 10A accepts an interstate course only if the commissioner is satisfied it is at least equivalent to an approved safety training course, and it must still fall within the 1 year before applying. It is not automatic, and it is not always rejected.
A person's Queensland firearms licence expired 8 months ago and was never suspended or revoked. They now apply for a new firearms licence. What does the Weapons Act say about the safety course?
Section 10A(3) treats a person as having adequate knowledge if they were a licensee within 1 year before applying, the old licence was not suspended or revoked, and it was one of the listed classes, which includes a firearms licence. Eight months is inside that year.
What is the youngest age at which a person can hold a Queensland minor's licence?
A licence can be issued to a minor only if the person is at least 11 years old and within the age group set by regulation. The QPS eligibility fact sheet also lists being at least 11 years old.
