Practice questions for CASA's remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) operator accreditation, the free online course and quiz in myCASA that you need to fly a micro or excluded category drone for work: the standard operating conditions, distances from people and airports, registration, record keeping and who needs accreditation. CASA's real quiz needs 85% to pass; CASA does not publish its question count or a time limit, so 30 questions and 30 minutes are ExamRoo practice settings. Written from CASR Part 101, the Part 101 Manual of Standards and CASA's drone pages. Not affiliated with CASA.

5 Most Common RPA Operator Accreditation Sample Questions & Answers

Preview 5 practice questions with answers and explanations that name their source.

Sample Question 1 of 5Who needs accreditation

Under CASA rules, which credential lets a person fly a 1.2 kg drone for paid real estate photography without a remote pilot licence (RePL)?

AA model aircraft club membership
BA ReOC on its own
CAn RPA operator accreditation
DA drone registration certificate alone
Answer & Source:

A drone of more than 250 g but no more than 2 kg flown for business is a very small RPA, and the pilot needs an RPA operator accreditation (or a RePL). A ReOC is an organisation certificate whose pilots must hold a RePL, and registration alone does not authorise the pilot. Source: CASA, Get or renew your operator accreditation.

Sample Question 2 of 5Cost

How much does CASA charge for an RPA operator accreditation?

ANothing, it is free
B$40 per accreditation
C$40 every year
D$100 for three years
Answer & Source:

CASA says getting an operator accreditation is free, online and valid for 3 years. The $40 figure is the drone registration levy for business drones over 500 g, not an accreditation fee. Source: CASA, Get or renew your operator accreditation.

Sample Question 3 of 5Validity

How long is an RPA operator accreditation valid?

A12 months
B2 years
C5 years
D3 years
Answer & Source:

An operator accreditation is valid for 3 years and then must be renewed (CASR reg 101.374G also ends it 3 years after it takes effect). Twelve months is the validity of a drone registration, which is a separate requirement. Source: CASA, Get or renew your operator accreditation.

Sample Question 4 of 5Pass mark

What score must you achieve to pass CASA's online RPA operator accreditation quiz?

A75% or higher
B85% or higher
C80% or higher
D100%
Answer & Source:

CASA states you must score 85% or higher to pass the accreditation quiz in myCASA. A lower mark such as 75% or 80% is a common assumption from other tests but is not CASA's standard. Source: CASA, Get or renew your operator accreditation.

Sample Question 5 of 5Minimum age

What is the minimum age to be granted an RPA operator accreditation?

A14 years
B18 years
C16 years
DThere is no minimum age
Answer & Source:

You must be at least 16 to become an accredited operator (CASR reg 101.374E also says you can only sit the course and exam from 16). Eighteen is the minimum age of the adult who supervises an under-16 operator, and "no age limit" applies only to flying for fun. Source: CASA, Get or renew your operator accreditation.
