Practice for the Queensland motorcycle knowledge test, the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) test you pass to get a class RE learner licence, written from the TMR Motorcycle Riders' Guide (March 2022), Your keys to driving in Queensland and TMR's motorcycle licence pages: RE and R licence rules, Q-Ride and Q-SAFE, learner approved motorcycles, helmets and protective gear, lane and edge filtering, passengers, roadcraft, risk factors and Queensland road rules. The real test is 30 multiple-choice questions with 27 correct (90%) to pass, taken online or at a customer service centre after the Q-Ride pre-learner course. TMR publishes no time limit, so the 30-minute timer here is an ExamRoo practice setting. Not affiliated with TMR or Queensland Government.

5 Most Common Motorcycle Knowledge Test Sample Questions & Answers

Preview 5 practice questions with answers and explanations that name their source.

Sample Question 1 of 5Licence classes

Which two motorcycle licence classes make up Queensland's graduated licensing system?

AClass R and class MR
BClass RE and class R
CClass LAM and class R
Answer & Source:

Queensland has class RE, which is restricted to learner approved motorcycles, and class R, which is unrestricted. MR is a heavy vehicle class for trucks, and LAM is the name of the approved-motorcycle scheme, not a licence class. Source: Motorcycle Riders' Guide, p 2.

Sample Question 2 of 5Licence classes

In Queensland, what are the three stages of training a new rider moves through to reach an unrestricted licence?

ALearner (L), provisional (P) and open licence stages
BPre-learner, learner and provisional stages
CPre-learner, restricted (RE) and unrestricted (R)
Answer & Source:

The Guide teaches the key riding skills in three stages: pre-learner, restricted (RE) and unrestricted (R). The other options mix up licence types with training stages. Source: Motorcycle Riders' Guide, p 2.

Sample Question 3 of 5RE learner licence

To apply for a Queensland RE learner licence, what must you already hold?

AA car provisional or open licence held for a year
BA car learner licence that has been held for a year
CA car licence of either type held for six months
Answer & Source:

You need a class C provisional or open licence that you have held for at least one year in the five years before applying. A car learner licence does not count, and six months on a car licence is not long enough. Source: Motorcycle Riders' Guide, p 3.

Sample Question 4 of 5RE learner licence

A rider holds a Queensland car provisional licence that they have held for 10 months. Can they apply for an RE learner licence?

AYes, if they have completed the Q-Ride pre-learner course
BNo, they need the car licence for at least a year
CNo, an open car licence is required
Answer & Source:

The car licence must be a provisional or open licence held for at least one year. Ten months is too short, so the Q-Ride course and the test cannot make up the difference. Provisional licences are accepted, so an open licence is not required. Source: Motorcycle Riders' Guide, p 3.

Sample Question 5 of 5RE learner licence

Which three requirements must an applicant meet to get a Queensland RE learner licence?

ACar licence, 20 hours of supervised riding and a knowledge test
BCar licence, Q-Ride pre-learner course and knowledge test
CCar licence, Q-Ride restricted course and a hazard perception test
Answer & Source:

To get the RE learner licence you need the car licence, the Q-Ride pre-learner course or an exemption, and a pass in the knowledge test. The hazard perception test and the restricted course come later, when you upgrade from the learner stage. Source: Motorcycle Riders' Guide, p 3.
